Background
Ecosystems are subject to anthropogenic and natural changes that increasingly affect their structure and functioning at different spatial and temporal scales. The result of these pressures is an increasing loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

This imposes an urgent need to accurately estimate the individual and synergistic effects that anthropogenic activities and climate change are likely to have at different hierarchical levels of organization of the ecological scale.

Only the understanding of cause-and-effect mechanisms and the creation of reliable predictions will be able to guide conservation, exploitation, and environmental recovery practices that are compatible with the stability levels of ecological communities and the renewal rates of the resources they provide to humans, ensuring a sustainable relationship between humans and nature.

With this in mind, we are happy to invite our scientific community and anyone interested to gather in Rome to participate in the XXXIII National Congress of the Italian Society of Ecology, entitled “Measuring and Predicting Change for Sustainable Management of Ecosystems,” which will be held in Rome from September 23 to 26, 2024 in the beautiful setting of “Sapienza University of Rome.”
